Rezon Bio (a Polpharma Biologics S.A. brand) has secured nearly PLN 17 million in funding under the European Funds for a Modern Economy (FENG) program. The project supports the establishment of a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) for biologics drug substances based on mammalian cell cultures at the company’s facility in Gdańsk, Poland.
The agreement was signed by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) and Monika Głowacka, VP Legal and Compliance at Rezon Bio, during the 18th European Economic Congress in Katowice, highlighting the growing importance of biotechnology in Europe’s economic and technological development.
Project overview
Project objective: The project aims to establish an advanced CDMO center for biologics drug substance manufacturing based on mammalian cell cultures, with EU funding contributing close to PLN 17 million.
Project title: Strategic strengthening of the EU in the field of biological medicines through the development of an advanced drug substance manufacturing center
Implementation period: 1 January 2026 – 30 April 2028
Total project value: PLN 52,103,539.38
Eligible costs: PLN 42,360,601.11
Contribution from European Funds: PLN 16,944,240.44
The implementation of innovation process and digital solutions will enable the creation of a scalable, flexible and cost-efficient manufacturing system, while enhancing process safety.
The integration of advanced process technologies with automation represents an innovation with strong economic potential, enabling the delivery of diverse projects in terms of both the drug substance types and the manufacturing processes, across all development stages, from early development to commercial production.
Advanced manufacturing capabilities in Europe
The key outcome of the project will be the development of a modern drug substance manufacturing system accessible to biotechnology companies across the European Union, from large pharmaceutical organizations to SMEs, start-ups, and research institutions. This will help reduce reliance on service providers outside Europe.
The project is based on the implementation of advanced technologies designed to increase the scalability, flexibility and efficiency of manufacturing processes. This EU-based CDMO center will enable customers to execute projects at every stage, from early development to clinical and commercial production, while maintaining an optimal balance between cost efficiency and the highest standards of quality, process safety, and regulatory compliance. As a result, the project will deliver a competitive, EU-based alternative to services currently sourced outside the region.

Biotechnology at the center of strategic debate
The importance of this initiative was further emphasized during the “Biotechnology and Innovation” panel at the European Economic Congress in Katowice.
Jowita Kacik, Head of Communications and Public Affairs at Rezon Bio, stated:
“Biotechnology is no longer just science. It is one of the key pillars of a modern economy, healthcare security and technological resilience. From Rezon Bio’s perspective, this transformation clearly demonstrates that well-designed public support can deliver tangible results, especially when it enables companies to build lasting capabilities. The greatest value is created when funding supports the development of infrastructure, teams, and standards that remain in the country and contribute to the broader economy.”
Rezon Bio is a strong example of this approach. Public support has played a key role in building the company’s biologics capabilities demonstrating that Poland is capable of developing and manufacturing biological medicines in line with global standards.
